Shah Rukh Khan's Good Friend Mamata Banerjee Stands Up For Deepika Padukone's Padmavati
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee calls the Padmavati controversy “unfortunate” & a “calculated plan”
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati is making news every day. After a lot of protests, the film has finally been postponed from its release date of December 1. The film is garnering support from all corners, and the most recent one is from West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee.
The #Padmavati controversy is not only unfortunate but also a calculated plan of a political party to destroy the freedom to express ourselves. We condemn this super emergency. All in the film industry must come together and protest in one voice

Mamata's tweet read, "The #Padmavati controversy is not only unfortunate but also a calculated plan of a political party to destroy the freedom to express ourselves. We condemn this super emergency. All in the film industry must come together and protest in one voice (sic)."
The West Bengal CM is a very close friend of Shah Rukh Khan. Recently when SRK was in Kolkata for inaugurating the Kolkata Film Festival, Mamata dropped him up to the airport in one of her cars.
Coming back to Padmavati, the film is getting support from the whole of Bollywood. People are coming out in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's vision and the hard work put in by the lead cast Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. From what reports suggest, the main reason behind the delay is the 3D pending work, and Prime Focus (the company handling the VFX) is apparently not charging a fee for doing Padmavati.
